Support for W2K3 Server

  • Category: Domino Server
  • Platform: Windows
  • Release: 9.0.1

We have a bunch of installations (SMB customers) that have W2K3 Server 32-bit that running Domino, Traveler and Limited/free Sametime.

Same server since probably 5.x or 6.x we've just been upgrading it each release.

So now we have a bunch of 8.5.x servers at various sites and now that 9.0.1 is out customers are asking about upgrading.

First issue - W2K3 Server is not supported?

Second issue - Where is the Free/Limited Sametime server?

I've seen other people saying they got 9.x to install and work on W2K3 - but what happens if you have to call in for support?

Will Traveler 9.0.1 even work on W2K3 32-bit server?

When Sametime Limited is released will it work on W2K3 32-bit?

Anyone else running into this issue?

TIA

w2k3 not supported, end of life...

First of all the support of w2k3 server is ended so if you want to give support to your customer, please tell them to upgrade the server to w2k8 or w2k12 in the future, also the hardware, new servers, new big hard disk, more memory, new cpu procesor.

Please check

I hope these helps, but you must do first of all the upgrade of the operating system on a new machine, then you can put any lotus products and migrate your old server to the new server.

That's my poor opinion.

Kind regards

alternative strategy

first off all,why don't you change to linux-operated server systems like RedHat oder Suse Linux Enterprise Server? They are all supported till the actual release, very high scalable and run and run and run. we use SLES since 2004 and since this day we still have 8.5.3 running including traveler without an interuption. and upgrade the OS is very simple and fast. so you're no longer dependend from microsoft and his horrible license strategy. just think about it and give SLES oder RedHat a try, the installation is with no cost and you have a 60-day-trial period at SLES, and then you only pay for updates oder full-service if you want. with samba and other tools you can bring your SLES/RedHat-server to your ADC if you have this at your company, or leave it standalone like we do

Yes, this is lame from IBM..

even MS didn't stop the Support for W2003 Server til today..

We have been forced to switch from Domino 8.5 to 9 due to Traveler "features", but we still using W2003 64bit.
Til now we didn't experienced any problems with our systems except one issue with daylight saving time and Traveler.

As we do not use Sametime, i can't tell anything about that.
Hope, this helps.

Simon
